Traffic in Cairo is much more chaotic than appears in this picture. Notice the people in the background attempting to play Cairo "Frogger". (Something we had to often during our stay in Cairo.) Cops and traffic light are usually ignored by most of the drivers.

If you survive Cairo Frogger, you get to see the Nile.

The Cairo Tower, build as a big (m) finger to the U.S. (funded with U.S. money, ment as a bribe to buy U.S. arms.)

Gezira from the Cairo Tower. Pools, parks, tennis clubs.. My guess is that city planning spend most of the money on this area below the tower.

Approaching the pyramid site. Left the great pyramid of Khufu (Cheops), to the right the pyramid of Khafre (Chephren).

(Chephren pyramid) Personally, I prefer this pyramid over the Khufu one, although is a bit smaller (only 60cm or so). The white area on the top used to be part the smooth top layer, which covered the whole pyramid ones.

"Very big, very old" (Camel owner, 1999 - quote from the Lonely Planet) This one hasn't any top layer left.

Burried on and off uptill it's neck in sand for 4500 years, the Sphinx was finally cleared again to reveal a lion's body in 1926.

The Sphinx owes it's name to the ancient Greeks, for who it resembled a mythical winged monster with a woman's head and lion's body, killing anyone who was unable to answer it's riddles... (Now a days that job it strictly reserved to the local camel owners and hasslers.)
