Approaching the pyramid site. Left the great pyramid of Khufu (Cheops), to the right the pyramid of Khafre (Chephren).

(Chephren pyramid) Personally, I prefer this pyramid over the Khufu one, although is a bit smaller (only 60cm or so). The white area on the top used to be part the smooth top layer, which covered the whole pyramid ones.

"Very big, very old" (Camel owner, 1999 - quote from the Lonely Planet) This one hasn't any top layer left.

Burried on and off uptill it's neck in sand for 4500 years, the Sphinx was finally cleared again to reveal a lion's body in 1926.

Very original shot of the Sphinx... To the left the smaller pyramid of Menkaure (Mycerinus) and right again the Khafre pyramid.

The Sphinx owes it's name to the ancient Greeks, for who it resembled a mythical winged monster with a woman's head and lion's body, killing anyone who was unable to answer it's riddles... (Now a days that job it strictly reserved to the local camel owners and hasslers.)

According to a recent investigation, the Sphinx probably portrays pharaoh Khafre. Though judging from the cheeckbones, I think it looks more like a woman.
